#WholeySmoke. It’s a person. It’s a concept. It’s Tony Stewart a.k.a. ‘Smoke’. Only when you see rather than only hear “#WholeySmoke” – do you fully get it. #WholeySmoke means the whole or the entirety of Tony as opposed to what sidekick Robin often exclaimed to Batman.
Tony Stewart is complex. Or is he really? Like all of us, he wears one of many hats; for Tony, he is a son, brother, uncle, friend, neighbor and outdoor sports enthusiast. Unlike most of us, Tony carries a celebrity status due largely to his illustrious, 17-year career in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series – claiming three Championships along the way.
But, our Tony is more than a highly accomplished racer in the No. 14 Chevrolet SS.
Eldora Speedway – the famed dirt track in Ohio which has won “My Favorite Track” for the 4th consecutive year in polling done by Speed Sport Magazine.

His racing career – having started at the tender age of 7 – would need multiple library shelves to hold the trivia, stories & trophies. The easiest way to help you understand his depth as a racer is to simply have you read his bio summary. http://www.stewarthaasracing.com/drivers/tonybio.php
But don’t think that our Smoke is hanging up the driving gloves when he retires at the end of this 2016 NASCAR season. There are three sprint cars bearing the #14 decals and Tony Stewart’s name sitting on wheels in the Indianapolis race shop just waiting for the 2017 WoO season to begin.
Inclusive of Tony’s racing enterprises, he owns a total of 12 companies. These other businesses directly or indirectly support each of the racing operations. Included the parent company True Speed Enterprises and the all important media company – True Speed Communications.
I admit this is my personal favorite persona of Tony. He started his named foundation in August 2003 with the first official grant awarded in the winter of 2004. Through his foundation, Tony has provided more than $6.5 million spread through 42 of the 50 United States. I have seen Tony completely engaged with the children and animals served through our awesome Grant Partners. While he’s not been in the public eye for his big-heartedness, Tony certainly has been an active part of his foundation. He absolutely cares about helping others.
The official Tony Stewart Foundation web site has been completely redone not only to become fully mobile-compatible but to reflect the stories, photos, videos and content which are #WholeySmoke.
A friend and volunteer joked that the new TSF web site will be “All Tony – All the Time”. That’s not necessarily true because our primary focus is on our amazing Grant Partners that have received a TSF Grant. But, we certainly have made the new site a one-stop resource of information for all the entities that are Tony Stewart.
I hope you will make the new TSF web site your “Go-To” site to read about NASCAR, Eldora, the WoO series & Tony Stewart Racing and, of course, all the outstanding work being done by his foundation.
As so many of you did with #StandWithSmoke or #SmokeWillRise, the 2016 hashtag to share on your social media networks is #WholeySmoke.
Please help us share the news of #WholeySmoke to celebrate Tony and his many accomplishments including those yet to come.
Joni Thompson serves as the Executive Director of Tony’s foundation having started in the fall 2007. With 25 years of non-profit and fundraising experience, this is her “dream job” in providing grants to outstanding organizations serving children, animals and drivers.
