The mission of the Indianapolis Zoo is to empower people and communities, both locally and globally, to advance animal conservation.
”We’re not a zoo doing conservation; we’re a global conservation organization that is a zoo,” says Indianapolis Zoo President and CEO, Mike Crowther.
The Indianapolis Zoo is also committed to sustainability — the ability of humans to provide responsible stewardship of the Earth’s limited and precious resources. The entire Zoo staff is involved with efforts to lead the way by making the Zoo itself as green as possible.
How the Money Will Be Used
In 2016, the Board Grant was for $10,000.
It’s only natural that the fastest land mammal – the Cheetah – should be associated with Tony Stewart. Since 2010, Tony and his foundation have sponsored the Race-A-Cheetah Program at the Zoo. Just over $77,000 has been raised – 50 cents at a time – supporting the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia, Africa while educating visitors about a highly endangered species.
