The mission of Speedway Children's Charities (SCC) remains true to the ideals it was founded upon in 1982: To care for children in educational, financial, social and medical need in order to help them lead productive lives. Speedway Children's Charities was founded by Bruton Smith, Chairman of Speedway Motorsports and Sonic Automotive, as a memoriam and legacy to his son, Bruton Cameron Smith, who passed away at a very young age.

For 2010 the participating tracks (owned by SMI) in the Driver Ride-Along Program include Atlanta, Bristol, Charlotte, Las Vegas, New Hampshire, Sonoma (CA) and Texas.

Tony and the SCC invite you to join them for the 2010 Driver Ride Along events. Together we can work toward a common goal of helping children in need.

Bidding starts this Monday, February 8th to win a ride with Tony at Las Vegas on Feb. 28th!

Often when you least expect it, something good happens! One day in early September, Bob Schwiesow visited www.TonyStewart.com to buy some #14 apparel. While on the site, he noted that Tony’s foundation raising funds through a raffle to win the new 2010 Camaro. Bob purchased a ticket and considered it nothing more than a donation for a great cause. He never gave a second thought to actually winning that “Victory Red” muscle car! That is, until he received notice on the evening of October 5 that his ticket had been randomly selected by Charity Splits’ computerized system. And, with a phone call from Joni Thompson, Executive Director of Tony’s foundation, the adventure began!

Tony has teamed up with the Indianapolis Zoo and Dr. Laurie Marker of the Cheetah Conservation Fund to help the cheetah win its race for survival. Cheetahs will call the Indianapolis Zoo “home” as of Memorial Day Weekend 2010 & Tony is doing his part to help remove the cheetah from the endangered species list. Given the cheetah is the fastest land mammal and, well, Tony is the fastest race car driver, it seemed a natural partnership from the first inquiry made by the Indianapolis Zoo (www.indyzoo.com).

Did you know that the cheetah is the oldest & most unique of the big cats in Africa? It’s taken 4 million years to develop into the unique species it is today. But, it’s taken only 100 years to bring it nearly to extinction with the cheetah population decreased by 90%! The wild population of these magnificent cats is thought to be less than 10,000. Cheetahs have become extinct in more than 16 countries where they once roamed freely. At this rate, the wild cheetah could be extinct in the next 20 years.

Starting in January, TSF will feature a special section of our Web site to share the creation of the exhibit, the work of Dr. Marker, and, of course, feature a fun message from Tony. Rumor has it that cheetahs on loan from the Columbus (OH) Zoo will be traveling to Kannapolis, North Carolina to meet their favorite NASCAR champion. While you’re waiting for the fun facts & photos on this site, you can visit www.cheetah.org to learn more about Dr. Marker’s extraordinary work in Namibia, Africa.

Smoke’s Pup Crew consists of 9 golden retriever puppies born on June 14 (well, 2 didn’t get the memo & arrived just before midnight on June 13!). Parents Cleo & Bohdi produced outstanding puppies ready to enter the Indiana Canine Assistant Network program (ICAN). Tony’s fans from throughout the U.S. submitted names through a contest format. The top 25 names were placed on a voting ballot & guests of long-time corporate sponsor, J.D. Byrider, voted for their favorites at their annual event held July 23, 2009 at O’Reilly Raceway Park.

Chosen by popular vote, the names were matched with each puppy’s personality – (the girls) Bella, Bristol, Charlotte, Dora, Lilly, Riley joined (boys) Dega, Hunter and Racer – to become Smoke’s Pup Crew. Bella, named for a childhood family pet; Bristol named for Bristol Motor Speedway – one of Tony’s favorite race tracks; Charlotte, named for the North Carolina hub of NASCAR; Dora named for Tony’s Eldora Speedway (OH); Lilly named for home state corporation Eli Lilly; Riley named for Riley Hospital for Children & Camp Riley; Dega named for Talladega Speedway; Hunter named the “hunt” of the annual Sprint Cup Chase; and Racer named for Tony who races anything on wheels!

On August 4th, the nine began their pup-start training at the Plainfield Men’s Correctional Facility (IN). Pup Starting is dedicated to teaching the dog “Fundamentals 101”. This type of pup starting in prison versus outside of prison will NOT negatively impact the pup's future probability at success.

The Tony Stewart Foundation will follow our 9 puppies through 2011 & keep fans updated on their training success with stories, photos and the pups’ blog. When these pups reach about 15 months old they will go to the Indiana Women's Prison for their “college-level” service dog classes! And, in the spring of 2011, we will be proud to introduce Smoke’s Pup Crew with the children & young adults that they will serve as assistant dogs!
