It’s The Little Things In The Coca-Cola 600

(photo source: zimbio.com/ Streeter Lecka/Getty Images North America) Started: 39th (after qualifying 21st but getting dinged for “unapproved body modification” when pushing the car out to the grid on Sunday afternoon) Finished: 24th Points: 111 points, 35th in the standings and 60 points from 30th position (David Ragan) When you have a race as long as the Coca-Cola 600 (the longest race on the NASCAR circuit) and your driver is having a good day it’s a great and glorious culmination to a day chocked full of racing.  When your driver is struggling, and laps down by the end of the race- it’s just a long-ass day and it’s hard to find good in the day when your driver finishes four [...]

No. 14 Team Boasts Plenty of Pennsylvania Representation This Weekend at Pocono

KANNAPOLIS, North Carolina (May 31, 2016) – Few people are likely to list the state of Pennsylvania among the top producers of NASCAR talent, but on Tony Stewart’s No. 14 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats team for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), the Keystone State is well represented with three crew members. The three Pennsylvanians who work on Stewart’s Chevrolet say this weekend’s Axalta “We Paint Winners” 400 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway is one of the most important of the NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule. Each began racing in the area and could think of nothing better than to win in front of the homefolks Sunday afternoon at the “Tricky Triangle.” Pocono Raceway hosted its first NASCAR Sprint Cup race in August 1974 and [...]

The 600 Loose Lugnuts

Coke 600 2015 (photo source: Tony Stewart Facebook) Here is what’s been pinging around my brain this week like lugnuts during a green flag pitstop. 1. While I always love the day of racing that is presented on the last Sunday in May- us Smoke fans have something extra special to look forward to- a Kenny Wallace interview with Tony Stewart on NASCAR RaceDay on FS1 prior to the CocaCola 600.  If you don’t watch RaceDay (I plan on watching the Indy 500 myself so I might miss it) you might want to set your DVRs to record it! 2. Also if you are interested in The Smoke Show at Texas Motor Speedway- the date has been released as Wednesday [...]

KANNAPOLIS, North Carolina (May 24, 2016) – Tony Stewart on Sunday enters his final Coca-Cola 600 – the longest race on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule – as a two-time winner at Charlotte (N.C) Motor Speedway but yet to visit victory lane in the 600. That hasn’t escaped the three-time champion’s attention. “Any time you win a race at Charlotte, it’s big,” Stewart said. “It’s a speedway with a lot of history and, obviously, the Coca-Cola 600 is a huge event. I’m a big fan of shorter races nowadays, but the 600 is truly a special event with it being on Memorial Day weekend and the history of the 600, back to when it was known as the World 600. There’s just [...]

All-Star Disappointment…

(photo source: Zimbio.com/Robert Laberge/Getty Images North America) Oh that All-Star race. But I am getting a bit ahead of myself. Let’s start at the beginning, shall we? Thanks to an uncooperative mother nature and a dog that gets me up at the crack of dawn ever morning I was able to watch the entire Sprint Showdown live.  Originally scheduled to run Friday evening the Showdown was postponed along with all other ontrack activities at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday.  I usually miss at least a couple of the Showdown segments being on the west coast because of work – so it was actually a nice treat to get get to watch the entire showdown start-to-finish.  In my opinion [...]
